Whether it be from loosing a game to unforeseen events, breaking through overuse and/or abuse or sold and/or given away video games come and go. In addition, in time where remakes and ports can be pushed into the public to make a quick buck for a company the market is fulled with multiple copies. Still, there have been times in my life were I have felt compelled to purchase a game multiple times or have received multiple copies of the same game. Myself I now have all copies of Final Fantasy IV (SNES, PSX, GBA, DS) that are translated into English. Bought the copy for the PSX and thought I had lost it. Picked a copy up for the GBA after Christmas one year. A few years after that was given the DS version and found my old PSX version simultaneously. In addition, when I bought my SNES off a friend, FFIV (FFII) was available with it. Because of this I now have two copies of Chrono Trigger. I have bought and lost more copies of Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC than I care to mention and I will soon be buying Person 3 for the second time (only bought the FES version) in July. With my luck and Atlus love of buying ports Persona 2 will be released in PSP form (hopefully as a full game) the same time I pick up a copy of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. So my question to you guys is what games do you have now in your collection or have had in the past have you spent money or received multiple times and possible the story of how you came to acquire them? This of course includes remakes and ports.
None. Ever. I feel it's a waste of money to buy multiple copies of the same game just because it's on a different platform. However, the closest thing I have to buying multiple copies of a game is Conker: Live and Reloaded for the original Xbox. Even then, I never owned the original cartridge for the N64, I just borrowed it from a friend.
Thought I lost my copy of KOTOR, so got another, then a friend returned the original. Was given a PC copy of it later, so I have 3.
During my xbox death, I picked up a PC copy of Mass effect.
GTA4 sucked so hard for PC, that I got a xbox copy.
I have RE4 for the Gamecube and bought the Wii version because A: I wanted the content that was added afterwards, and B: I wanted a new excuse for playing it again. However, my real problem is owning five copies of Super Mario Bros. I bought a GBA copy and I have four NES catridges with it (1 by itself, 2 with Duck Hunt, and 1 with World Track Meet). The reason for this is that at the thrift stores where I shop there package a whole bunch of games together. It is kind of annoying, but I suppose that getting Contra for $5 is worth gaining another copy of Mario.
I had Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the PS2, until I found out that the Ultimate Alliance for the 360 came out with a gold edition that had all the downloadable characters. Since I didn't have internet I bought that game as well.
