If it's crap ... We'll tell you
What movies have you guys seen that you went in not expecting much, but walked out completely wowed? For me, the big one would have to be District 9. I went in expecting just another sci-fi actioner...and instead got one of the strongest, most compelling political allegories in years. What say you?
Yeah, this was the case for me. It was on a most controversial list and it just happened to catch my eye. My first and favourite Kubrick film.
I saw The Three Stooges earlier expecting some ol' bullshit, but I was very suprised by it. Gotta agree with Spill on the matinee score.
I'd say Oldboy. I had nothing else to go on apart from that it was a Korean film and some guys on this site enjoyed the fuck out of it. Blew my mind when I watched it.
A Clockwork Orange would be another. I had seen a list of the top 20 most controversial films ever made and this one caught my eye. I didn't expect it to be anything special but it sure was....
And The Evil Dead was another film where I wasn't expecting it to be that good. Another 'horror classic' that was gonna be dated and not as scary as it once was. Shit, this movie was funny and scary!
The social network it may have had aaron sorkin and david fincher but I was still like, aint no way your gonna make a movie about facebook work and holy shit was I wrong
I would have to say Attack the block. I only heard of this film from the spill crew so i check it out and DAMN it blow my mind.
I'd have to say mine was Kick Ass.....I went in unfamiliar with the source material, expecting a watered down story about a teenage who's a wannabe superhero with a cutsie story. What I got well KICKED ASS.
1) "Rumble in the Bronx". After years of Hollywood-made martial arts movies, this one comes out and just floors the competition. Set me on to years of hunting down Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao films.
2) "Strictly Ballroom". Expected nothing but a chick flick and got a romantic comedy that I really got in to and enjoyed.
3) "Hard Core Logo". Thought it was going to be nothing but a road comedy. The ending... wow.
