Maybe making a genuinely adult aimed animated series for the DC Trinity on AMC or something: A Batman show with a sort-of psychological, dark feel to it with more grisly crimes and adult characterization, like BBCs Sherlock; A Superman series that directly tackles the Birthright/Whats so Funny About Truth Justice and the American Way style themes of Optimism vs. Cynicism and the power of media in a more adult fashion (Toyman as a pedophile, drugs, Luthors literal paranoia and delusions, etc...); A Wonder Woman series with a sort of urban fantasy vibe to it, and more true-to-the-source depictions of the Greek pantheon A.LA Brian Azzerello.
Permalink Reply by Gift of the Magi on April 24, 2012 at 7:35am The problem with doing a TV series based on a current comic is mainly the HUGE amount of history. For most superhero comics, creating the world where a costumed hero could function and be passible is nigh-impossible.
You usually have better success with more realistic comics lie The Walking Dead.
That said...we are supposed to have a Booster Gold TV series coming soon. Gods help us...
Permalink Reply by Devane Boyd on April 25, 2012 at 5:35pm No because tv executive will also try and make a show as accessible as possible and if it has all the comic history it really wouldn't be, take for example the current ultimate spider man tv series no way in hell they would ever do that show with miles morales, although looking back the 90s marvel cartoons were basically straight from the comic book (albeit with a lot more censoring) and with Batman they took elements even characters (Harley Quinn, the batman beyond future) and put it in the comics.
Permalink Reply by Gift of the Magi on April 26, 2012 at 9:42am Just so you know, they tried Harley Quinn in her own comic...it failed. Batman Beyond comics exist only as an Elseworlds comics (different Earth dimention) and directly targeting kids under 12. BB does NOT exist in the main storyline, and Harley is now just a slutty fangirl of the Joker...they stripmined 90% of her personality til she's almost a parody of her crappy Arkham Asylum/City character...you know, the one where minions debate the benefits of raping her?
As for Miles...yeah, not gonna happen. The cartoon doesn't even follow the storyline of the comic it's based on. And we are talking about LIVE ACTION TV, NOT CARTOONS. That's a whole new beast.
