Well i just finished Metal Gear. I was all about to take back my great bosses comment after the SUNDOWNER fight, but that last battle with Mr Nano Sumo Fuck, that Guy (that took me almost an hour) made up for the last few. I don't know if it's because i lucked into their patterns or what, but It felt like that arm staff chick and MONSOON should have been the later bosses.
The game's fun as hell. Raiden is a pretty good lead character, but that damn RIPPER Christian Bale Batman voice was bad. I can deal with the Japanese humor, and some of the "Lost in Translation" scenes and dialog, but that voice? The 90's J Rock was awful, but the anime inspired cutscenes and QTE's were bad-ass. The level design was almost nonexistent. Enemies were great for the most part. They could have used more robots and less foot soldiers.
My thoughts on the fighting system haven't changed. "With all the fun i'm having with this system during boss fights, fighting normal enemies still (I can't think of another way to explain it) feels stiff, and your movement, limited. The dodge/evade is nothing more than a small hop slash to the left, right, or away from the enemy. I'll bet most people wont even bother to use it. Jumping is even worse. For a game like this you would think that jumping would be high on the priority list of things to get right. You can use free running, but with no real moves while running it should only be used to travel or evade unblockable attacks. Except for the final Boss, it's not a practical move in the middle of a fight." The evade (x+a) works well on certain enemies and bosses. Sometimes they prompt you to use it with a yellow laser flash ( The red flash is for parry) just before an attack. I didn't much care for the weapons. I ended up using the Arm Staff as my secondary for most of the game, but the Sai came in handy at times.
I'll give this an 8. As much as i dislike certain things about this game, i can't deny how fun it is. I was really close to giving this a seven something, but it has a certain oldschool charm from the olden days that makes me forgive it.
It takes around six hours of gameplay to complete.
Oh, and for any of you folks out there who are loving every aspect of this Metal Gear game but shit all over DMC, you got to be fucking kidding me. Argue your point on why you think this game's better all you want, but to say DMC is shitty while saying Metal Gear's shit doesn't stink is ridiculous.

It's incredibly useful, actually. On harder difficulties I find myself using it more than parrying at times because of the invincibility frames it provides. Some attacks cannot be parried and you have to use it as well.
I agree with your review for the most part though, especially on the weapons. The game could've used more variety with them and a quicker way to switch them in combat.
I also hope we're talking about DMC not being shit, not DmC.
The evade/slash sidestep can be usefull. I used it everytime SUNDOWNER put his shields up, avoiding its blast and hitting him with a strike each time. You must have missed the part where i had said, "The evade (x+a) works well on certain enemies and bosses." The fact is, it doesn't work as well as similar moves in other games.
O'h, and yes. I thought the reboot of Devil May Cry was a great game. I just think this Metal Gear has more problems overall than DMC.
Permalink Reply by Sgtcrispy on February 22, 2013 at 9:24pm I must have misinterpreted you as saying it was more useful than it was. My bad.

We're going to have to disagree then. DmC was just a chore to play through.
Permalink Reply by Sgtcrispy on February 27, 2013 at 10:05pm Wait, but that isn't even true.
Gray Fox was never going to be in this game. Kojima offhandedly mentioned that if he was making the game he would personally do Gray Fox, but he was never in charge of making the game.
lol... I really do read up on these things called games you know. I've grown quite fond of them over the years.
@Sgtcrispy
This is a comment i had made in Latest Activity, and was mostly made in jest, but that doesn't mean there isn't any truth behind it. In the end, it was Kojima's call.
"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – Kojima wanted Gray Fox to star instead of Raiden
Hideo Kojima has said if he’d had his way, Gray Fox would be starring in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance instead of Raiden.
Speaking with IGN ME, Kojima said had that occurred though, he would have been forced to take a more hands-on role with the title.
“It was my staff in Kojima Productions that insisted on Raiden, and I respected their idea,” he said. “I wanted to really focus on production than development, and they wanted to come up with a really cool hack-and-slash title with some Katana action and Raiden in it, and I thought ‘okay, that’s fine, I respect that’.
“But in my personal opinion, I wanted to go for Frank Jaegar, (a.k.a. Gray Fox). But if we had gone with that, I would have had to write the script and then be really committed to creating the game.”
Kojima said he had been wanting to pass on development responsibilities to the “younger generation” on his team, and had been “trying to do so for quite some time.” Platinum Games and it’s penchant for action-slash was also eventually brought on board to help finish Revengeance in 2011.
“Before, I never could give complete responsibilities for other games, but for Revengeance, they are fully in control,” he said. “Besides, if I had created the game and directed it, it wouldn’t have been this game. I am very happy to see the growth in my team and how they have developed such an incredible game.”
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance hits PS3 and Xbox 360 February 19 in the US and February 22 in Europe. You can try out a demo for it on January 22."
Permalink Reply by Joong on March 1, 2013 at 12:06am Nothing in your post explains how Raiden stole the main character in Revengeance, and you didn't even bothered to explain how he stole the main character in MGS2 as well.
What am i supposed to be explaining again? First of all, you took a comment that was a response to someone in Latest Activity who was talking shit about Raiden (as a joke), and try to use it in this context for what exactly? I know Raiden never stole a role in MGS2.
If you can remember, all the promotional advertising, pics of the game, and even the opening of the game itself, was a huge setup to make gamers think the game starred Snake. Kojima (imo) pulled one of the greatest pranks ever when Raiden was revealed to be the main character.
So no, he did not steal a role from Snake, and i never had a problem with the Raiden deception. Others didn't take that news so well. Others, will continue to hate Raiden till the day they die. Others, would have rather seen Grey Fox in Rising. My comment was to one of those "Others". So there you go Joong, an explanation to a comment that i made about something totally unrelated here.
As for that story on Kojima; that was @Sgtcrispy, and his comment, "Kojima offhandedly mentioned that if he was making the game he would personally do Gray Fox, but he was never in charge of making the game". I just wanted to share with him the whole story behind what was more than an offhandedly mentioned comment.
lol... You gotta love it.
People shit their pants when Kojima played this at E3. Snake rips off the Raiden mask in the original E3 vid!
