I see this alot lately and I wonder how much research and time half these people put into their wild accusations. Let me bring up one I've been hearing alot lately "Well Microsoft and Sony are just trying to copy the wii"....yes and no. They are of course trying to copy it's success but from a technological and history stand point Sony atleast has proven that it's been working on something like the move for 10 years, and Microsoft has also been looking into motion gaming for a while before Wii's success Let me present something Sony posted up containing some footage that is nearly 10 years old. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/11/03/eyetoy-innovation-and-bey...
I just came to show you what I know if you learned something you did if you didn't I'm sorry, if you got a wild accusation you can disprove with article(from a third party news site, not a forum post by a fan) or video evidence don't feel shy to post it up.
I say whether they copied or not, they are improving the gimmick at least. I don't need a article for that, that's my opinion motion control has a long way to go, wii was a nice first step, now let the others try. Either way though it doesn't interest me, I prefer a good controller in hand and not have to wave it around in a spastic motion, I like the responsiveness better.
it's not really a gimmick it's a diversification from the old style of playing a video game(sitting with a controller in your hand). People just label it a gimmick, with no real reasons though it's proven itself to be very successful and a very innovative way to play video games that some people prefer over a controller. You clearly haven't played that many motion controlled games especially a lot of Move or Kinect games or even some wii games like Red Steel 2 or Metroid prime 3 since you believe you you need spastic motions to control something(which is another thing a lot of Gamers are ignorant about also).
Red Steel 2 requires a hard swing and even then you won't get away with just flailing your wrist you actually have to do the movement, Metroid Prime 3(and Metroid prime trilogy) is the concept of pinpoint accurate aiming(which while still flawed is actually better then aiming with a joy stick). Most Move games use the glowing ball on the Move controller as a Motion Capture point and as the first video I posted above shows it can actually map a motion capture skeleton. Basically your whole body is being captured 1:1 on screen this means in the sword fighting game Gladiator Duel(that comes in Sports champions) if you flail your arm your character will flail there's and the damage you get IF you hit(Which is very hard to do when flailing) it will do very little damage. If you get in proper position and attack like you would with a real sword and hit you'll do nice amounts of damage(like 1/16 of their HP a hit). Kinect is trying to go full hands free and from what all the reviews say it seems to be working great with a few problems here and there.
Remember this is just their first wave stuff meaning as time passes and more developers get use to the technology and more over try to push it further you'll start see less people talk about spastic movements and more people talk about it like it's as natural as the controller
Until that day comes where motion control can completely out preform that standard controller, I won't waste my money, for one I don't have the money in general. Don't you dare pull Metroid on me, I almost bought a Wii just for the game after it came out, I then realized it's one of those games that may not come as often as I like them to. I am interested in the PS Move mainly because I only have a ps3, I hear the classic argument: "Oh it's works good enough, BUT IT'S TWO YEARS FUCKING LATE." That doesn't mean it doesn't deserve any attention.
