Can't argue with you there. All I can say is, Canadians bitch and whine, and complain about the cold, but at least we know how to deal with it. Anything over 30c, and we melt, and die. He'll feel pretty much at home on a coast, but I still recommend Alberta, cause it's a dry cold. In Calgary specific, we get a very odd weather phenomenon during the winter, called a Chinook. For a few days (it's really pretty random), temperatures will shoot up to over 0, but then plunge back down to -20c when it's over.
Alberta also has a typically much stronger economy than other parts of the country, due to large oil sand deposits.
Please also note, that he will be familiar with our measurement system.
U.S. immigration legislation in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) stipulates that an alien may obtain permanent resident status only through the course of the following proceedings:
* immigration through a family member
* immigration through employment
* immigration through investment
* immigration through the Diversity Lottery
* immigration through "The Registry" provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act
Permanent residence status is your green card.
IF you want to know about the different types of Visas, it's on the Wiki page above.
Agreed, as hard as it is for you to accept making a living for the first time in your life outside of you country of Birth is a very difficult thing to do. Not impossible no but this experience could possibly ruin you if you aren't ready both financially and emotionally.
