Does Superman count? 'Cause I'm really getting that feeling recently.

It's the vocal minority. Just ignore them. They have a really terrible tendency to make things much worse than they already are.

Well nearly everyone like superman, despite the new 52 book not being all that good, so i do not think it counts really.

I think people like Supes just fine...as long as he can NEVER be better than Batman. And that's the joke, because as a person...he is better than Batman.

Batman is quickly becoming the industry's most overrated hero.

Gift, is it just me, or are you starting some sort of hate crusade against Batman? Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it seems any Batman related topic seems to send you into rage from what I've seen.

I will join Gift in this noble crusade.

Hate? You call that hate? My friend, that is mild annoyance with a dash of sarcasm for flavor. When my hate flows, the Dark Side of the Force backs up slowly.

So let's clear the air a bit here: I do not hate Batman as a character. The concept is decent and if done well can be a lot of fun to read. Some of the best superhero series ever written were Of or with Batman. He is a detective first and hero very closely behind, operating in a city with very little justice of it's own, using his wits and a bit of luck to survive.

What grinds my gears to dust is the PERCEPTION of Batman, and the fanbase that feeds off it, like Lucas feeds off his own creation while raping it. the PERCEPTION of Batman isn't of a detective or a mortal hero trying to make things better with his mind and wits...it's of an emo asshole that can NEVER get over his parents death, trusts no one, throws kids into combat, and can absolutely ANYTHING just because he's the goddamned Batman. And people love this.

Of late, the perception has moved from a capable hero with some flaws but the determination to make things better somehow...into the absolute perfect being with the mind of a brilliance but barely controlled sociopath. No reason or rythme to it, he just CAN.Because he's Batman. He can beat anyone, kill anyone, outthink anyone. His villains are always better and cooler than anyone else's, despite the fact that they are all unpowered weirdos that seemingly only care about one cesspool of a city.

What gets me even more riled up is when he is compared to Superman, DC premiere hero. Superman has powers, abilities...and better than that, a stable personality despite having a more tragic background than even Batman (I think only Martian Manhunter has it worse). He's. Really decent guy that had issues but worked them out long ago and til recently was considered the statesman for what a hero could become.

...so of course, the PERCEPTION is he's a dick.

Now comes in the fanbase, claiming Superman is too powerful, he's a douchebag (without proof), that you can't relate to him. I counter this with NO ONE could be Batman's perceived image. NO ONE. And that Superman's strength is not his powers, but his humanity.

But anyway, Batman's perception has begun to rule over logic and actually character development so much of late, the character has become a parody of himself. Instead of the well-rounded and occasionally humorous Batman from the 50s to the 80s AND in the first three seasons of Batman TAS...we have an increasingly hostile and dick-ish Bataman that can create sentient satillites with nano-tech, can travel through time, take over robots with his spirit and defeat anyone in hand to hand combat without effort. He is always cooler and better than everyone, and even while he actively recruits children to fight in a war(his words), he can tell off another person about how to raise or deal with their possible offspring(FUCK YOU YOUNG JUSTICE!)

In closing...wow I do go on...if I must lead a crusade, it is not against the original character of Batman, but the unholy spawn he has become and the idiots that continue to feed into it. It is against those that try to push a maniac down our throat and scream at us that he is perfect, while condemning the real good and decent heroes...to the point of retconning their entire history JUST to make it so (FUCK YOU DC REBOOT!!!!). And finally it is against the fanbase that simply throws any thought or logic to the wind just because they want to root for a guy in black that kicks ass and (they think) can't lose.

So, it's mainly against the rabid fanbase? Totally understand then. I know that feeling greatly.

half is the rabid part of the fanbase, the other is what Batman is becoming.

This is a good commentary on the state of Batman right now.

its kinda funny dc started out with superman being an invincible god who could do anything he wanted, and now batman is an invincible god who can do anything he wants. I say green lantern gets the treatment next.
