If it's crap ... We'll tell you
March 11, 2011 a massive earthquake hit 81 miles off the northeastern coast of Japan causing tsunamis which created huge amounts of damage and as of yet untold loss of life.
In Tokyo we felt the affects over 200 miles away. That was the worse quake I had ever experienced. My room shook violently and things began cascading off my bookshelf. There were hundreds of people outside not sure if the next Great Tokyo Earthquake had come. There were some sizable aftershocks minutes afterwards and we are still feeling them now.
We had a sizeable quake to the south of us just last night. I felt that in Tokyo Hooters but thought it was just from the girls bouncing around doing their birthday dance.
The worst though is up north where whole neighborhoods have been washed away by the tsunamis. The Fukushima nuclear power plant is still a problem but I've gotten tired of all the media making shit up for sensationalism. Going by them, you'd think half of Japan was destroyed in the earthquake and tsunamis and the other half was glowing by now!
My feeling is that most of the news stations aside from NHK are being very callous and inconsiderate; going for sensationalism and ratings by fanning the flames of fear...
Firstly: glad to hear you are ok.
Secondly: great video.
The other day I read something in a forum about a select few workers of the nuclear power plant who have been pretty much working non stop to help put out the high tension situation. The details I heard that I do not know whether to believe or not is that they are doing this work in minimum level radiation suits and low oxygen tanks. I also heard something about Japan temporarily raising the OK levels of radiation that workers can be around.
How much of this information is true?
it's difficult for me to say. News-wise I'm caught between two different news types. There's the Japanese news service that is trying to keep everyone calm (though it didn't stop panic shopping - my local stores are cleaned out of bread, rice, and water) and the foreign news which is drumming up the danger and making it sound like America and Europe will be exposed to deadly radiation in the immediate future.
As for the workers, I understand they are suited up to the highest ability. The danger area is roughly 40km but that's not a chernobyl-type danger. Still I can't help but worry that many of them will have health problems in the future
I posted this on another website. Pretty amusing. Fox News named a nuclear reactor Shibuyaeggman. Eggman is a dance club in the Shibuya district of Tokyo
