Recently I started writing for a site called AnalogHype.com and they've gotten me a press pass for E3. This is a huge deal for me as it's going to help my exposure as a vlogger and I already have interviews lined up.
BUT on the flip side I have tickets for U2 during that 3 day period in Oakland. They're pretty good seats and I'd love to go as I've never seen them live and I enjoy the band quite a bit.
Now before you go trashing U2, realize that they're putting on what is considered one of the very best live shows in the world right now. It's insane. Also if you can't imagine seeing them live at all, just picture it being your favorite band on their biggest tour ever instead.
Now that that's settled help me figure out what I should do.
Should I go to E3 where I have huge access and can help my career or go to a piece of entertaining history?
dood i love U2, and they're almost a once in a lifetime expierience for people who cant just blow cash on their concerts, but on the flipside its not like E3 is gonna be "un-fun", quite the contrary, given any other three day span, youd probably think it was just as fun as a U2 concert.
Even more importantly (and i dont wanna sound like your dad) though, you say you already got interviews and stuff lined up, and your company gave you a pass? it would be kinda unprofessional to go my friend, and it looks bad to turn down a buisness gift, especially when it is a new relationship, and they gave you a big opprotunity to make something of yourself. I would give alot to go and see U2 man, but in this economy, be professional and go to E3... I think that would have to be my advice man. good luck tho making a desision though.
not a fan of U2, but you should go to the concert instead. I worked for a company called AV dimensions, and we set up the Konami booth two years in a row so I got to go to E3. It is awesome, and there will be celebs, and gorgeous women everywhere, but it is so damn crowded, and so spread out that it is impossible to see everything, and really kind of an exhausting experience altogether. So I guess it depends if you wanna chill, or a have an exclusive experience. Either way don't expect any sympathy from me sounds like you can't lose.
well see the difference is you went there as an employee... I'm going to meet with all the famous people and gamers and go to exclusive after parties and such. That and it will help my career. It's not just for entertainment. It's also so I can get just that much further in my vlogging/blogging career.
I have personal friends at BioWare and Activision that I've met through other means. Because of those connections I've lined up several quick interviews with people about projects coming up. You'd be surprised how easy it is. Analog Hype is getting me there because they got the passes, but I'm actually going to write for VeryAware.com and my self. I'm going to write a few articles for AnalogHype as a favor, but mostly this is for myself.
The gaming community is really easy to get into if you just meet one right person. Then they introduce you to everyone else.
So it sounds like you've got the connections to get good interviews but don't really have great publications to write them for. Kind of a tough spot. If you want to a get a great interview with Activision get them to talk about the Infinity Ward situation. Otherwise I doubt they're going to have anything interesting to give you. And unless Bioware is going to announce a new game I don't see what they can give you either besides Old Republic updates.
Oh dude the publication is myself and I have promotion of my videos set up through other youtubers who I'm going to be there with. And when I said I have connections at Activision and Bioware I meant that through them I'm getting connections to other people in other companies.
You'd be surprised who knows who and who has friends at what company. That and I have PR reps for these companies that I'm in touch with as well who are going to set up even more interviews the closer we get to the event.
Meddle it's really none of your business who I'm going to be interviewing, and I actually can't say in some cases because we've been told we can't give confirmation that certain people are actually even going to be there.
As for my youtube page I have some videos with hits in the 1000s and I have professional youtubers I'm teaming up with while I'm there who will be promoting my videos and I'll be featured in several of theirs. If I go that is.
Basically what's happening is I've made a lot of connections and written a lot of stories for certain youtube channels that work in entertainment based channels and I'll be working for or with them while I'm there as well. In return I won't get paid but I will get promoted. These are people who have hundreds of thousands of hits per video. It's a good deal on my part... and even writing this makes me realize how dumb it is to even consider not going.
take the career cos bono doesnt give a flying fuck about ya and he's the biggest wanker in the world right now and you refering to this live gig as a piece of entertaining history (WTF?) it this sort of shit that fuels the irish pricks ego.
