I've played the game. No it's not, I got pretty bored easily with it. Combat doesn't feel as refined and I was cringing at the story.

At least the other games didn't take it too seriously past DMC2 and a few of Nero's angst scenes. This game is Nero cranked up to 11.

What most people can't seem to grasp is that just because the combat being passable for an action game, doesn't mean it's good. (Or anywhere close to the standard set by previous entries in the franchise.)

Seriously, this game is a gigantic step back for the series in every conceivable way... except perhaps level/environment design. The praise it's receiving from the mainstream gamers is truly baffling, as it's blatantly worse than anything else, except perhaps DMC2, that we've seen from this franchise. Even on a technical level, as the game was struggling to keep up it's meager 30FPS while DMC 4 ran smoothly at 60FPS. Is it a marketing thing? Are people buying into Tameem's bullshit about how cool Donte is? I just don't get it.

I seriously think that none of the people praising this game have played Devil May Cry before, and if they have then they're obviously too stupid to understand why it was good in the first place.

One of the worst things is its on some weird middle ground between just being stupid easy fun and trying to have depth to the combat.

I enjoyed The God of War series even though the combat was very shallow and it was fairly easy at least the game knew what it wanted to be as a more cinematic experience and was its own thing. 

For this game its like Ninja Theory took Heavenly Sword and dressed it up in a Devil May Cry outfit and it just doesn't fit naturally.

Exactly. If this game existed as it's own separate entity, I probably wouldn't hate it as much as I do. However, it's insistence on shitting on something I love, as well as the developers attitude towards fans of the source material, turn this otherwise mediocre game into a fucking atrocity.

Fortunately the game appears to be bombing. We won't know for sure until U.S sales are released however.

i am hoping beyond all hope that this game fails. this isnt really about dmc anymore, but more about how if this game succeeds then more corps will believe that ppl with buy a game for it's name alone. and i dont want to see mario twilightized.
