Let us forget PS v. Xbox war for a second. Let us think across platforms. What are some, 5 lets say, best video games you ever played? My 5 is:
1: Metal Gear Solid - PSX - Redefined what action games are. Completed it least 15 times and each time it was like watching that one great movie.
2: Final Fantasy 8 - PSX - I know FF7 was revolutionary, but FF8 is till today the best adventure game I have ever played. Got very involved with characters and loved exploring the world for hours at a time.
3: Halo 3 - Xbox 360 - What can I say? With the exception of one level, this is a great game and, despite being too short, is a fantastic experience ... counting down the days till I become Spartan 117 again.
4: Batman Arkham Asylum - Xbox 360 - Finally, a great game with Batman as the main character. That is enough to make my list.
5: Splinter Cell / Army of Two - PSX / Xbox 360 - Splinter Cell took a John Woo take on action and made it into a video game. I loved playing that game as you got to do great "movie moves" and the sequel got even better. Army of Two took the co-op play to a new level by introducing great characters, a simple (yet working) story and a fantastic gameplay.
Batman Arkham Asylum, Starcraft And its expansion broodwar, Warcraft 3 and its expansion frozen throne, Dragon Age : Origins, Diablo 1, Diablo 2 And its expansion Lord of destruction, Star wars : Knights of the old republic, Command and Conquer, Command and Conquer : Red Alert 1 and 2, Command and Conquer : Tiberian sun, Dawn of war and all of its Expansions ( exempting soul storm ), Dawn of war 2, Fall out 3, and its expansions. Oh and of course Goldeneye 007 (N64). These are all high quality videogames in my opinion, most with killer plots and game play.
WWWAAAAAYYYYY back (but not too far...I still have my Atari 2600), the PC game AITD pre-dated games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil in creepy action/mystery/horror games. The graphics were 3-d style and VERY basic by today's standards but the story was amazing, the pacing tense and the feel of the game kept you on your toes.
Now Bioshock got very close to using everything from style to music to look to create that kind of enviroment...but I will always love that game.
1) Super Smash Bros. Trilogy A game with near infinite replay value, and fantastic party game .
2) Gears of War 2. Been playin it for a year and a half, and i'm still not tired of it.
3) JaK and Daxter trilogy- Best platformer I've ever played
4) Prince of Persia 2: Warrior Within
5) Bioshock: Best first person shooter I've ver had the pleasure of beating 3 times.
6) Kingdom Hearts 1&2 Simply Fantastic
There is nothing wrong in liking FFX and X-2. To me games are like movies; you like what you like. I played FFX, did not like it as much as FF8 but there is no hating here. I love that you have the SF II up there - a truly revolutionary game.
It is given that without FF7, which I do recognize a revolution in RPG gaming, FF8 would not be as great as it was, to me.
I played X, and I did like the world and characters. I did not like some changes they made (especially to the fighting mechanics - I guess I just played FF8 so much that any small change was colossal in my eyes) and at one point in the story I just lost my interest.
Now, all that said ... if you like it, that is great. You will see me criticize games (movies, books ect), but I hate people who criticize other people for liking something they don't (i.e.: people hating New Moon fans ... hate the movie, not the fans).
As a result, when you speak on my forums feel free to say what you really like (don't like) and do not worry what other people say.
