As I recently discovered MST3K on Youtube, it has become one of my favorites. I know there is Rifftrax, but you have to pay for them and I have never payed anything online before and my parents might not agree to it.
Well, what if it came back on the tube, and decide to change the host (or human: Mike and Joel)?
Who would you like to see at the helm of the Satellite of Love, and watching crappy movies w/ Tom Servo and Crow? Which crappy movies would you want to see riffed?
My suggestions for host would probably be Joel McHale since he is funny on The Soup and seems a perfect candidate as a riffer. Strangely and oddly enough, Tom Kenny, AKA Spongebob, since I think it would be interesting see the guy out of his animated persona and be himself to see if he got what it takes to riff, IMO. Other candidates would be Demetri Martin, a funny comedian who could probably be a good riffer as well.
A movie I would like to see riffed would definitely and obviously be Son of the Mask.
You're forgetting the subtle appeal of the show itself: it was mid-western made by mid-western people. It never had star appeal. It was made by a group of people in Minnesota on a small budget with people who were genuinely funny not specifically doing it for the money, but because they loved riffing.
Even to this day where they're still doing Cinematic Titanic and Rifftrax, the quality of their character is still there. These guys are genuinely funny as people, not just as actors.
They've had some guest stars like Weird Al on Rifftrax, but they can't compare to the chemistry of Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbet. A comedian star wouldn't add much. It'd get more attention, but it just wouldn't feel right.
